Make up the breakdown.
The last few days have not been good for me. I’m sure you’re all tired of me whining about my computer, but you’re going to have to put up with some more.
On Sunday, I spoke to a supervisor who told me that he didn’t know why nothing had been done on my pc, and that he personally would attend to it, and back-up the data (that I paid an additional $100 for) himself that day.
Later, he called me and told me that I had too much music, and that it would be an additional charge for them to back them up on regular CDs because I don’t have a DVD drive. I asked how much more, and he said he wasn’t sure, but that I could also (to make it easier) have them back it up onto an external hard drive. I said I didn’t really want to purchase extra equipment.* He then told me that it didn’t matter anyway, because that $100 I paid only covers 9 gigabytes of data transfer, and I had about 30. BUT, for only $200 more, they’d take care of it.
Let’s do the math: I paid $70 for them to test it, and $100 to back it up, and then I would have to pay $200 more to save my music. That’s almost $400. I love music, but I have to tell you, I don’t love it enough to incur that kind of expense to save it.**
I told the guy just back-up my documents folder only. He said ok, and that he was going to start it immediately. I asked him when I could expect it to be done, and he told me (on Sunday) it would be ready the next day.
Yesterday, before I left work, I called Best Buy and asked if my pc was ready to pick up. The guy I spoke to told me that NOTHING had been done on it, and that it wasn’t expected to be ready until August 28th.
I did not take this well. And I let him know I was not taking it well. My boss had to come out of her office and tell me to settle down.
Now, if you’ll recall the missing keys incident a few weeks back, I confessed to sometimes reacting to things badly.
This was one of those times.
When I got home, I started thinking about it, and got more angry, and started screaming, and yelling, and throwing things. And there may have been some crying (shut up).
I realized that I was more frustrated with how attached I was to a computer than I was with the way The Geek Squad was dicking me around.
So I was hysterical for a while, and when I finally took a breath and sat down, I started to feel better. And I realized, again, that I can’t control other people and situations, I can only control my reaction to them (this should be my new mantra - besides “does cheese come with that?”).
Thank you, Oprah Winfrey.
This new-found wisdom doesn’t mean I’m not going to freak out again. I guarantee that I’ll get pissed about a zillion other things (probably before this week is done). But it makes me feel better.
*The Geek Squad can kiss my ass. I bought a new laptop from Dell, and should be getting it this afternoon.
**I am a believer in karma, and the music on my computer that I’m losing is music that I’ve downloaded. So, I guess that’s what I get. I’ll still be sad to lose all of it, though.
Ok. I’m done now.
And now, to answer Joey’s question: The website for the Big Brother info is mortystv.com.Â
READ AT YOUR OWN RISK.
I have a whole rant about what’s happening on BB, but I have to go to lunch (see? If I had the goddamned internet at home, I could ramble all night about it) .
I’m going to be more interesting soon.Â
I swear.

Don’t mess with the geeks by linking it with a faceless company. Bunch a dorkwads they are.

Must be Melt-down August, Andria. Maybe we should all do a big group hug. Or at least partake of a large Wisconsin cheese wheel. ![]()

Um yeah. I just ordered a Dell. I literally took it out of the box two hours ago. I have to send it back. The powercord doesn’t work properly. Jerks! They’re making me send the WHOLE computer back. *le sigh*
I hope your Dell is nicer to you!

I’ve had no problems with my dell laptop. Why don’t you just get your old computer back from the geeks and I can tell you how to back up your data and music onto your new laptop. I am married to the highest of all geeks. I have ways of transferring your data! And possibly saving all your music.
Let me know!

Do you suppose that some of those music downloads just maybe might have had viruses and/or spyware? … There’s nothing wrong with being attached to your computer, it is a vital form of interaction, communication, storage, etc. for most people. Just don’t start carrying the new laptop everywhere like it’s an oversized cell phone … oh, and hope you have better luck with Dell than I did!

Another Big Bro fan….not sure who I want to leave tonight. Kind of James. Kind of George. George pissed me off when he lied to Kaysar, hell he pretty much backstabbed Howie too! Not sure who I want at the end, maybe Janelle and Will. They are the best players, and Will. It’s been a good season…but odd. Hard to predict!

Geez, who knew the Geek Squad was the new Communist Party? Fuckers. May the fleas of a thousand camels infest their crotches.
