DK: Actually parts of the country ARE lumped together. For example, we use the term “Southern accent” quite a bit when there is a difference between an NC accent and a GA accent, which of course are different from a TN accent and an AR accent. Instead of being nitpicky we just say “Southern accent”.

And try finding a cowboy in NY, I dare ya!

I think Britney DOES know she’s going to land in the papers a lot, but I also think she needs some serious help. But I’ll grant you, a conversion to Scientology would be funny as hell.

And DK - I think most of us Yanks know that not every region in Britain has the same accent, but we’re not as familiar with the regional names for each, so we just call them “British”.

I, too, was saddened to hear about Heath Ledger last night.

My 2 cents on Britney is that she had the kids to show her fans she was “mature”, tired of being thought of as a virgin goody-goody (all the smoking and drinking goes in this category, too). She doesn’t care about those kids. They have two asses for parents–KFed isn’t going to be a good father. I wouldn’t be surprised if, once all the hype wears off, KFed dumps the kids with their grandparents. I’m sure he doesn’t really want them, either.
Ain’t it grand how ANYONE can have a kid? Or two?
They both need to be neutered.

Also, I’m fairly sure that Americans aren’t the only ones who refer to a “British” accent. In fact, I was just reading Anthony Burgess’s very good book on the English language, “A Mouthful of Air,” and he, an Englishman, describes someone as having a British accent.

DK: One can easily say that there’s an overall british Accent. Sure, I can tell England from N Ireland or Wales or wherever the fuck else, but we need to understand that Andria has a hard time eharing a lot of the time because of the ever-present cum-crust over her ears.

See how I did that? I started out on target and still managed to insult you, imply that you are a HOAR and generally make myself giggle.

Really…how are Brittney and Hillary any different? Anything to stay in the news and on the front page
