You can manually start explorer.exe and it works fine. Still stuck with black screen with mouse cursor and only able to open task man where I'm able to navigate my way to a command line.Please assist ASAP. The problem is typically limited to just this file, and can often be repaired by removing any viruses from your computer as well as using system check and repair utilities. Ctrl+Alt+Del goes to intermediary window from which you can run Task Manager.

Several functions may not work. Verify that explorer.exe is present in Windows directory. A case like this could easily cost hundreds of thousands of dollars. Also, have you tried booting up in Safe Mode and see if explorer launches at bootup there?

When I run a new process, I run explorer.exe and then end the explorer.exe that was running when I started and only then will the desktop show up.
