That was very wrong. Once I switched to classic Start Menu, it no longer hangs and the Start Menu even works. I went to the Mfg's website, Nvidia in this case, and found updates to my driver. I hope this helps someone and saves them all the time I spent troubleshooting and fixing this problem.
