The hard disk is only two months old and, like I said, I've had no problems prior to today. A sucessful recovery required physically unplugging the power supply from the wall. Basicilly the application "to my understanding" cleans up XP of old drivers e.g. I am sure there are many members more experienced than me that can answer this.
